May21st,  from Tui to Redondela. Last night a bunch of pilgrims all met at the local taperia for a traditional Spanish style meal. Turned into a bit of a party as we were joined by Heike and Evelyn from Germany, and Manuel from Portugal.
meat and potato's, what more could you ask for after today's longish hike. The food quality changed the moment we got to Spain, not so much better, but different, and seems fresher.
The meat was as tender and tasty as I've ever had, I was a happy camper.
We stayed at a local Albergue for 10 euros, even had a beer kegerator on the patio, which I sampled before going to dinner
in the town square, there was this old church which was not being used anymore, I found it fascinating to look around ( as I do with old things) and noticed the cracked and weathered wooden bell counter weight, which must be 100 s of years old, and a broken bell, there must be a lot of stories hidden in there.
when do you ever see a broken bell, other than the substandard workmanship  in Philadelphia which the British sold to the Americans after the civil war

We forgot the 1 hour time difference when we crossed into Spain, so we thought we were leaving for a long day at 6 am, in fact we left at 5 am and 4 pilgrims walking right up to every wall, on every corner, to see if there was a Way marker, its was so damned dark, we looked like the 4 blind mice.
Was a good walk today, got to give it to LeAnn for braving it out, she walked the whole 32 kl on her tender feet, with her bag.

On to the town of  Redondela and into town. Was not a very nice place but we stayed in an Albergue which was on the second floor of the cultural museum.
6 euros gets you a 10 pm curfew, an 8 am get out of here, a paper pillow case, a paper bottom sheet, and no WiFi.

If its Spain, then Mr Holmes is eating Bacarones (marinated raw anchovies)
